A Weekend in West Virginia

Amazingly, I have made it 28 years without ever strapping a pair of snow skis to my feet.  This used to be a favorite fun fact about myself until this weekend when I headed to Canaan Valley, West Virginia to try my hand at cross country skiing.

After an hour long tutorial we were released so Dan and I headed off to conquer some of the flatter trails.
Look at that game face!!

I knew I would hit a hill eventually and the first one looked terrifying.  Most people would see it as a bunny hill, but the drop to the left had my knees shaking.   I decided to take off my skis off so I could easily walk down, but sadly one got away from me and headed down the hill far away from the trail.  Dan came to my aid and earned some serious BF points as he waded through knee high snow to retrieve said ski.

Just hanging out post snack break.

Back to the trails and finally back to some flat ground.

Still smiling after several hours and only a hand full of falls.
After we returned our skis it was off to get some bagel bites and prep for the pot luck diner.

Sunday, before everyone dispersed, Dan and I headed down to the partially frozen waterfall.  This was the moment where I decided next year I really need to invest in some snow boots.  Walking Sliding around in boat shoes is not the easiest of things.

Jonas Reaches Pittsburgh

Well after a few short days since returning from Florida, the forecast predicted a huge snowstorm for eastern PA (along with much of the East Coast).  I was scheduled for night shift which meant I would have to dig out my car before going to work and sadly dig it out again to get home.  Thankfully, the combination of eight inches and the early hour meant there was almost no one on the road.

I did decide to make a quick stop on the way home to pick up some staples for soup.  The snow shut down the PA Turnpike which meant the Trader Joe's truck was not able to make it to PGH.  Talk about a picked over store!

Now off to throw things in the crock pot and get some much needed shut eye.

Florida Wrap Up

Dan and I packed up and headed South for some warmer weather.  While we got lost a couple of times and several of the touristy things were a total bust, it was great way to spend a long weekend.  Here is the quick and dirty of the trip:

Saw the Robot Repair Shop at the PGH Airport

We saw some big cats at the Panther Ridge Conservation Center

Met a cute puppy

Hit up a National Park

Drank a Passion Fruit Smoothie at Robert is Here

Wandered around Miami after dark

Strolled the beach at the Breakers after seeing the Flagler Museum and losing my debit card

Squinty Face
Took a boat to Peanut Island

Half Marathon

It's that time of year again when I print out the half-marathon training schedule and attempt to get a game plan together.  Mom and I are heading back to DC in March to take on the Rock 'n' Roll half marathon.  We are at 10 weeks and counting!!
