Birthday Brews for Dan's 28th

One of my most favorite beer festivals of the year is the Tour de Fat.  Each year New Belgium sponsors an afternoon of good beers, wacky entertainment and a car-for-bike swap.  This year the festivities fell over Ban's Birthday weekend, so we rallied the troops and headed into the District.  Sadly it was a grey and rainy day so most of the day's festivities had been canceled.  The beers, however, were still flowing.

A little rain couldn't keep us away.  It did make for some short lines!

Fingers crossed 2017 brings some sunshine.

Let it Grow, Let it Grow

After several emails and even more weeks on the waiting list I finally got a garden plot to call my own; a 20 x 20 foot plot to be more precise.  The entire process of pulling the weeds and knotweed from my overgrown plot seemed completely daunting.

After six hours of weeding and tilling, I was finally ready to figure out where all the plants would be placed.  The last few days have been overcast, so I took an educated guess and tried to predict where the sun would shine brightest.

Triceratops for size.

Once the plants started going in, things started to look like a garden.

Add a little straw for garden paths and some bamboo for support for some finishing touches.

After a few days tomitillos started to flower and everything else was settling in nicely.

Frick Seedling Sale

I have finally secured a community garden plot (more about that to come)!!  Because there was no time to get my seedlings started, I decided to head over to the Frick Seedling Sale.  Every year Grow Pittsburgh sells plants to support programs they run throughout the city.

I was a kid in a candy store.  Seriously, I somehow ended up with twelve different tomato plants, peppers, eggplants and tons of herbs.

Now off to the garden to dig up the weeds and get these babies in the ground.
