People wonder why the Public Health field has such an uphill battle. I would like to use this offer as exhibit 'a google' - just one more way fast food companies are able to use advertising to sabotoge any kind of primary prevention work being done in local communities. Sadly comparing the advertising budgets of the USDA to these big companies and the USDA is like pennies to a dollar.
You may be asking yourself, why now? Apparently the month of December has been traditionally a slow time at fast food restaurants (blame it on the office parties and family gatherings). What better way to bolster business than to send out mass coupons to millions of Americans.
If you are going to splurge this holiday season, don't waste it on some over cooked burger, soggy fries and a large soda (I guess the $2 six inch sub at Subways is not awful, depending on what you decide to get). Spend it with friends and family, some good wine and a dessert or two.
A girl can dream, right?!?!
As a follow up, check out this article posted on Slate about the buying patterns of LivingSocial customers and the flop that this sale had compared to the Whole Foods deal a few months back.
